In order to build a koi pond into your garden, ideally you will need a large space from your landscape design layout plan. A typical koi pond should have at least 4,000 litres of water and about 3ft to 4ft in depth. The pond dimension is important and has to be balanced for the koi fish to grow well for the next 10-20 years at least. It is also very important to have a good water filtration and pump system to clean up the fish waste.

Another Malaysian favorite pond design would be the natural pond water feature. This pond design is not focused on koi fish for sure and for that reason, it can be build ideally into a small garden of most houses in Malaysia with a space of 5ft by 5ft or even smaller.
Unlike koi pond, this natural pond design is not necessary to be too deep. Filtration system is optional because the natural pond is designed to balance from the nature of ecology concept. However, a pump system is still needed to circulate the water and creating stream.
A well balanced design should be able to remain the water clear and receiving right level of sunlight to the pond by nature. Small fish and plants can be added to make the ecology system even more complete.
Whether is a koi pond or a natural pond, designer will usually suggest a few concepts to you such as tropical, modern, rocks and stone and so on. The pond will be designed to your selected concept and desire.
