Weed control for garden maintenance in MalaysiaWeed control has been always the most bothering trouble in garden or landscape maintenance. It is really frustrating when your beautiful garden or lawn had some annoying weeds started growing now and then. You tried to get rid of it by pulling out the weeds but it keeps coming back after a while. You want it to go away by not giving it water and nutrition but you might also killing your flowers as well. Some used harmful chemical of weed killer products hoping that the weeds will be gone forever but not realizing at the same time it could be harmful to you, your garden and to the environment.

There are ways of weed control that preventing it from growing without the need to use harmful chemical products but yet very effective. Here are the five ways on how to prevent weeds from growing naturally.

  • Cover flower bed with grass clippings and newspaper. If you want to prevent unwanted foliage from growing in your flowerbed, start saving chemical-free grass clippings and old newspaper. Although grass clippings are not as presentable as wood mulch, they are easily available and best of all, it is free. When paired with your old newspaper, grass clippings work extremely well in weed control and stopping other unwanted growth. This is easily one of the best ways to stop weeds from growing in a flowerbed. It is natural, inexpensive and very easy. It is also a fabulous natural alternative to expensive and potentially harmful weed control chemical products in your weeds control solution.
  • Make the ground unpleasant growing environment. Spray your flowerbed once a week with vinegar. Weeds are difficult to growth in such environment. You can reverse it using lime if needed. It work best with paper covering and grass on top but you have to repeat this often.
  • Control sources of newly introduced weed seeds. Around your garden, there are plenty of nearby weed stands can be substantial sources of weed seeds, especially those that are easily carry by wind (for example, the dandelion-type of seed). Do not take it lightly those apparently insignificant weeds in the path, along the walkway. This is one of the aspects of weeds control that we always overlook. Seeds can stick on your feet, on gardening tools and carry by water. Try planting weeds that you like. Yes planting weeds! When you have your flowerbed full with wanted weeds, those unwanted weeds have no room to grow.
  • Let the soil sleep…zzzz! Weed seeds “sleep” in your soil all the time, just waiting for sunshine to enable them to germinate. Unless you disturb the soil, most weed seeds can stays asleep for years. That means, it is more likely those weed seeds to remain dormant if you less disturb the soil and this is one of the best ways of weeds control. Also, spread your flower seeds above the ground in mounds of compost, shredded leaves, or even in bags of topsoil. If possible, better still, plant seedlings.
  • Salting (Not on plant) Those weeds that seen pop up in the cracks of your walkways can be difficult to eradicate. But salt can do the job. Boil two cups of water with a cup of salt. Pour the salt solution on the weeds to kill them. Another alternative yet equally effective method using salt as weeds control is to add the salt directly onto the unwanted grass or weeds around your garden or walkway. After you are done with adding salt, spray it with some water or you might just want to wait for rain to dilute the salt into the ground.
